Alex Rivers

Experienced RHP Alex Rivers signed with the Boomers as a free agent on July 1, 2012.

Rivers, 24, pitched most recently in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before being released on June 26, 2012. In nine games with the RedHawks, Rivers was 1-1 with eight strikeouts having allowed 14 runs in 18 innings.

The 5’10” right-hander began his professional career in the Kansas City Royals organization after being drafted in the 39th round of the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft out of Santa Clara University. After appearing in 21 games for the Idaho Falls Chukars in the Pioneer League in 2010, Rivers progressed as high as Single-A advanced Wilmington. For his professional career, Rivers holds a 4.72 ERA in 95.1 innings pitched with eight saves, 96 strikeouts and 31 games finished.

Rivers was named Santa Clara's “Pitcher of the Year” after throwing four complete games and two shutouts in 2010. Over his four seasons as a member of the Broncos pitching staff, Rivers compiled a 4.68 ERA in 290.1 innings with a 15-20 record to go along with 228 strikeouts.
