Francis Marion University reliever Patrick Mincey joined the Boomers on January 23, 2012.
Mincey, 22, excelled in his final two collegiate seasons at Francis Marion University. A 3-2 record with a 3.43 ERA with two saves for the Patriots as a junior in 2010 earned Mincey the closer’s role as a senior. A sparkling senior season saw the 6’3” right-hander pitch 32 innings with 39 strikeouts and 13 free passes.
Mincey’s 1.97 ERA and .235 opponent’s batting average helped the Hartsville, S.C. native earn a 1.97 ERA and five saves. Mincey helped lead FMU to a 41-16 record and a birth in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. Despite getting knocked out of the Tournament, the Patriots finished ninth in the final NCAA Division II Top 30 Poll.
Mincey transferred to Francis Marion after two seasons at Spartanburg Methodist College where his best season came in 2009. In 26.1 innings for the Pioneers as a sophomore, Mincey collected 31 strikeouts to just 9 walks and allowed just four earned runs which was good for a tiny 1.37 ERA.
