The Boomers signed right-handed pitcher Clark Labitan on June 25, adding an arm to the bullpen from NCAA Division I Virginia Tech University.
Labitan, 22, owns five years of experience with the Hokies, redshirting his sophomore year after pitching 34 innings with a 4-1 record during his freshman campaign. The 5’9” slinger followed up with an outstanding junior year, compiling a 3.18 ERA and 6-2 record over 45.1 innings of relief.
After starting 2013 on the National College Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year Watch List, Labitan delivered in his senior season, collecting 37 strikeouts in 45.1 innings out of the bullpen and earning a 2.58 ERA. Opponents batted just .232 against Labitan in 2013, en route to 11 saves on the year and a career total of 78 scoreless innings.
