Kines, 23, had a strong first season with the Boomers in 2016. In his 18 starts, the lefty posted a 5-6 record with a 2.96 ERA and 104 strikeouts, good for fourth-best in the Frontier League. Drafted in the 36th round by the Marlins in 2015 out of Mount Olive College (North Carolina), the left-hander struck out 30 while walking only six over 35.2 innings that season. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina native was a four-time College All-Region pitcher and two-time College All-American during a stellar collegiate career. Kines holds the Mount Olive record for most strikeouts in a game at 18.
