MARION, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, will have an opportunity to defend the title after pitching past the Southern Illinois Miners 2-1 on Thursday night to win the Frontier League Divisional Series.

Seth Webster, who pitched the Boomers to victory in the wild card game on Saturday, followed suit by working seven innings and allowed just a single run. The Miners took a 1-0 lead in the fourth before the Boomers rallied. Schaumburg tied the game when Jordan Dean, who doubled, came around to score on an error. The Boomers loaded the bases in the fifth and took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Mark Nelson, which plated Alexi Colon.

The bullpen held the lead as three pitchers were perfect in two innings to send Schaumburg to a second consecutive championship series. Dexter Price recorded the final three outs to earn his first save of the playoffs. The Boomers managed just six hits in the game, three from Joe De Pinto, but kept Southern Illinois at bay. The Miners stranded nine

Schaumburg (61-35, 3-1) owns a 3-0 record in elimination games during the playoffs and will open the championship series on the road at the River City Rascals on Saturday. The two teams tied for the West Division title during the regular season but haven’t played since July. The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
