The 2016 Frontier League Organization of the Year Schaumburg Boomers and Manager Jamie Bennett announced the signings of OF Kyle Ruchim and INF Will Soto for the 2017 season.

Ruchim, the Buffalo Grove product and standout rookie outfielder for Bennett’s 2015 roster, returns to Schaumburg after having his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox in 2016.

“Kyle is a fantastic talent,” said Bennett.  “He conducts himself the right way on and off the field, and his experience will be a huge asset for our team this year.”

Ruchim, 24, was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2014 draft but chose to return to Northwestern University to finish up his college career. During his final year at Northwestern, Ruchim owned a career high of six (6) homeruns and posting a .358 batting average. His transition into minor league baseball in 2015 with the Schaumburg Boomers proved to be a successful one. During his first start for the Boomers in 2015, Ruchim registered a single in his first Frontier league at-bat and later notched a 2-RBI double, sparking a Boomers rally late in the game. The Buffalo Grove product appeared in 60 games for the Boomers during his 2015 rookie season posting a solid .304 batting average, recording 66 hits and 22 runs scored. Ruchim was second in doubles (18) and tied for third on the team in home runs (3).

Prior to the start of what would be Ruchim’s sophomore debut season for the Boomers, his contract was purchased by the Chicago White Sox in May 2016. In 2016, the Buffalo Grove native appeared in 11 games for the Class A Kannapolis Intimidators, where he finished the year with a batting average of .143.

Joining Ruchim and many others for the Boomers and Bennett’s sixth season will be second-year infielder, Will Soto. Bennett agreed to terms with the Sacramento State University product late last week.

Soto, 25, spent the past season putting up imposing numbers in the American Association.  In one season as a pro, Soto boasts a .250/.301/.300 slash line with four doubles and seventeen RBI.

With the additions of Ruchim and Soto, the Boomers officially have 14 players signed to contracts for the 2017 season. The latest additions will join fellow infielders Michael McClellan and Melvin Gray; pitchers Kurt Lipscomb, Gunnar Kines, Jake Joyce, Kenneth Knudsen, Kagen Hopkins, and Austin Kerr; and outfielders Zack Weigel, Daniel Hoy, and Adam Urbania on what will be a maximum 34-man roster when Spring Training begins in late-April at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg.

The 2017 season kicks off on Friday, May 12th as the Schaumburg Boomers begin their 2017 journey with three straight days of Fireworks. The Boomers will host the Traverse City Beach Bums at 6:30 p.m. Season Tickets, Group Outings, and Boomer Bundle ticket packages are all available now by calling (847)461-3695.
