Boomers Cruise Past The Crushers

SCHAUMBURG, IL —The East Division champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, cruised to a win against the Lake Erie Crushers by an 8-0 final to take the series opener inside Boomers Stadium.

Jumping on top in the second inning, Jack Parenty brought in a run with an RBI walk issued by Lake Erie starter Mason Klotz. Kyle Ruchim followed that up with an RBI single that bounced on the earning track, putting the score at 2-0. Boomers would tack on in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Parenty. In the sixth, Opie Brodbeck delivered a line-drive, two-run homer to right, putting the Boomers up 5-0. John Holland also knocked in a run in the sixth. Tanner Pinkston capped a three hit night with RBI double in the seventh. Rock Shoulders ended the scoring with a sac fly in the eighth.

Lars Liguori started and picked up the win after pitching five shutout innings. The lefty allowed just 3 hits and a walk while striking out five. Derek DeYoung, Rob McDonnell, and Kyle Westwood combined to preserve the shutout effort.

The Boomers (60-28), who became the first team to clinch a playoff berth on Tuesday and own the best record in the league, host the Crushers for the middle game in the three game set on Saturday night, 6:00pm start time.
