Washington Takes Series from Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a series for just the third time this year, suffering a 6-2 loss to the Washington Wild Things in the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

The contest featured two of the top hurlers in the league the past few seasons with All-Stars Kagen Hopkins for Schaumburg and Trevor Foss for Washington. Kyle Ruchim staked the Boomers a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the third. Washington scored two runs quickly in the fifth on back-to-back doubles to grab the lead. The Wild Things padded the margin with four runs in the sixth against the bullpen and held on for the win. Ryan O’Malley tallied a two-out RBI single in the eighth for the final run of the game.

Hopkins worked five innings and allowed a pair of runs on five hits to suffer the loss. Derek DeYoung threw a pair of perfect innings to finish out the game. Schaumburg finished the game with seven hits. Ruchim and Seth Spivey tallied multi-hit performances. Spivey owns 21 multi-hit games this year.

The Boomers, owners of the top record in the league at 28-11, will embark on a six-game roadtrip beginning Tuesday night at Joliet. RHP Conrad Wozniak (0-0, 1.27) takes the ball in the opener.
