Lake Erie Holds Off Boomers in Series Finale
SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth, but dropped a 4-2 decision to the Lake Erie Crushers in the finale of a mid-week series to end a five-game win streak.
The contest started 59 minutes late due to rain. Lake Erie connected on a pair of two-run homers just inside the right field pole during the top of the fifth against starter Brandon Quintero. Quintero threw eight innings and struck out eight but suffered the loss. Schaumburg finally broke through in the ninth against the Lake Erie bullpen, taking advantage of three hits and two walks. Pinch hitter Nick Oddo brought home John Holland with a groundout while Ryan O’Malley singled home Sean Godfrey, who walked earlier in the frame. A strikeout ended the game as the Boomers trapped the tying runs on base. David Harris and Zack Weigel finished with two hits each.
