Boomers Rally Falls Short

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers attempted a ninth inning rally but dropped their third straight game at Windy City 6-2 on Thursday night.

Windy City netted three first inning runs for the second consecutive game to open an early lead. Chad Cregar drove home a run with a double while two other runs scored on sacrifice flies. The ThunderBolts added runs in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead. Cregar homered for the third straight game in the third. An unearned run crossed in the fourth to make it a 6-0 lead.

Robby Donovan suffered the loss for Schaumburg, allowing six runs (five earned) in five innings of work to go with three walks and four strikeouts. The bullpen provided a chance for the Boomers to rally as Jose Rodriguez, Thomas Nelson, and Patrick Mincey all threw scoreless frames.

Schaumburg rallied in the ninth, but left the tying run on deck as Tyson Corley closed the door. Nate Baumann led off the ninth with a walk and Ty Nelson’s first pro hit placed runners at the corners with one away. The Boomers broke up the shutout on a wild pitch and Drew Heithoff collected an RBI single to plate Nelson.
