Boomers Game Preview - May 26, 2012

The home opener was a night that will not soon be forgotten. A near capacity crowd of 6,067 were treated to a 5-2 Boomers win in the first home game in franchise history. Pitching dominated the early parts of the contest with Cameron Roth and Florence’s Dan DeSimone trading zeroes.

Florence struck first, tallying a single run in the top of the sixth after Peter Fatse tripled. The Boomers responded in the bottom of the frame, notching five straight hits including four consecutive extra-base knocks to score five runs and take the lead. Jereme Milons drove home Drew Heithoff with a double and scored when Gerard Hall doubled. Frank Pfister poked a triple down the line in right before Nate Baumann drilled his first professional homer to left, the first home homer in franchise history, to cap the scoring.

Roth pitched 7.1 innings but allowed another tally in the eighth thanks to another triple from Fatse. Alex Theiroff finished out the victory before the fireworks concluded the evening. Pfister and Heithoff collected two hits apiece. Pfister has now tallied a hit in every game this season.

Schaumburg is 4-0 against the East Division. The victory halted a three-game skid while stopping Florence’s four-game streak.

The series continues tonight as the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a foam prairie chicken helmet and a magnet schedule for the 6:00 p.m. game. RHP Tyler Watkins (1-0, 3.00) starts for the Boomers against RHP Maxx Catapano (0-0, 2.57).
