Schaumburg Drops First Home Game

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The two expansion teams in the Frontier League met for the first time on Tuesday afternoon at Boomers Stadium with the London Rippers claiming a 12-1 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers.

The lone bright spot on the day for the home team was the newest Boomer, LHP Eric Holmes, who allowed just one run on four hits in his 4.1 strong innings of relief. DH Nick Kuroczko had the lone RBI on the afternoon for Schaumburg as he drove in Jereme Milons in the sixth inning.

The Rippers got to Boomers starter Andy Weeks early and often Tuesday scoring 11 times on 13 hits over his 4.2 innings of work. A two-run single by Stephen Cardullo and an RBI single by Zach Larson during the first inning gave the visitors a 3-run advantage and a grand slam off the bat of Joash Brodin in the second put the Rippers in control for the rest of the day as the Boomers suffered their first loss of the season at Boomers Stadium.

Another day game Wednesday with the Boomers and Rippers set to square off at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Schaumburg will send Opening Day starter RHP Robbie Donovan (1-1, 4.50) to the mound for the first time at Boomers Stadium, and he will oppose RHP Sheng-An Kuo (0-2, 5.19) for the Rippers.
