ALL Games Broadcast on WRMN by Calderwood

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Beginning in May 2012, WRMN 1410 AM Elgin will be the official radio home of Schaumburg Boomers Baseball with award-winning broadcaster Tim Calderwood calling the complete 96-game regular season and postseason schedule on WRMN, it was announced today.

"This is another exciting step forward for the Boomers and our great fans for 2012,” Boomers President/General Manager Andy Viano said. "There's nothing more quintessentially baseball than tuning into a game on the radio, and we're thrilled to have WRMN as a partner to be able to bring Boomers Baseball to fans young and old throughout Schaumburg and the surrounding area this summer.

Baseball comes to one of Chicagoland’s most listened to news talk radio station WRMN 1410 AM with the Elgin-based radio station becoming the official radio partner of the Schaumburg Boomers starting in May 2012. WRMN 1410 AM’s esteemed Chicagoland news department is famed for its extraordinary know-how in bringing you balanced political, business, financial, energy, emergency, money, medical, legal, and stock market news, community, regional, USA and international information, in addition to the most updated traffic information, and doppler radar weather forecasts and coverage.

The 2009 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year and esteemed industry publication Ballpark Digest’s Honorable Mention for 2011 National Broadcaster of the Year, Calderwood returns to the town where his baseball career began after spending the 2011 season with Pat and Lindy Salvi’s other independent minor league baseball team, the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association.

"To me there's no better voice to bring the call to the fans than Tim,” Viano continued. “His passion for baseball, knowledge and experience in the Frontier League and his uncanny ability to connect with the fans make him one of my favorite broadcasters in the business and I know our fans will enjoy listening to him as much as I do."

“As someone who has attended many games in Schaumburg as both a fan and employee, I couldn’t be more excited to help return baseball to the Northwest Suburbs,” Calderwood said. “I look forward to helping establish a new tradition of fun by bringing the passion of Boomers Baseball to the airwaves every night. It will be awesome to reunite with so many friends and coworkers both in the Boomers front office and around the Frontier League, where I have spent four seasons. I can’t wait for Opening Day!”

After beginning his career with the Schaumburg Flyers as the broadcast intern for the 2002 season and official scorer and fill-in broadcaster for two full seasons, the Elgin native was named the Sports Information Director and Broadcaster for Division III Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he was responsible for broadcasting games for eight sports and conducting media and web operations for all 21 sports. While in his role at Loras, Calderwood spent his summers working for a pair collegiate wood bat leagues serving as the Director of Communications/Broadcaster for the DuPage Dragons in the CICL in 2005 and the Director of Media Relations/Broadcaster for the Sanford Mainers in the NECBL in 2006.

Beginning in 2007, Calderwood took a job as the Director of Broadcasting/Media for the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League where he was on the air for 96 games in addition to handling the media relations duties. During his time with the Beach Bums, Calderwood led broadcasts to the number one rating in Northern Michigan, broadcasted the 2008 Frontier League All-Star Game in Traverse City and was named 2009 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year. During the 2010 season, Woody, as he is affectionately known around the office, served as the Broadcaster for the Lake Erie Crushers in Avon, Ohio.

In addition to his new role with the Boomers, the Elgin High School graduate also serves as the Sports Information Coordinator at Benedictine University in Lisle in the offseason, working specifically with Football, Baseball, Men’s Basketball and Golf. Calderwood also broadcasts Soccer and Volleyball for both men and women at Loyola University Chicago as well as Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball and Wrestling at Elmhurst College. This offseason Woody also began working for Region Sports Network calling high school football in the Northwest Indiana.
