Homestand Opens Tonight!

The Schaumburg Boomers return to Boomers Stadium tonight to open a string of 24-consecutive games against the West Division with the first of a six-game homestand against the Gateway Grizzlies. The meeting is the first of 21 in a row without an off day, 15 of which will be played at home.

The Boomers are looking to rebound after being swept by the leaders of the East, Southern Illinois, over the weekend. Schaumburg led for the first time in the series on Sunday thanks to a first inning RBI single from Nate Baumann, but suffered a 9-5 loss as spot starter Jose Rodriguez lasted just 2.1 innings. Frank Pfister homered for the second consecutive game in the third inning, a solo-blast, his fourth of the season. Sean Mahley also went deep, connecting on a two-run homer for the first of his professional career in the eighth.

Pfister carries a seven-game hitting streak into the homestand opener, matching the longest streak of the year by a Schaumburg player. Pfister hit safely in the first seven games of the season while Nick Kuroczko also had a seven-game streak.

Tonight’s meeting is the first ever between the two franchises. This evening’s 6:30 p.m. contest marks the first Hometown Tuesday with Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, and Hanover Park.

RHP Robby Donovan (1-1, 4.24) starts for Schaumburg against RHP Cale Johnson (0-1, 6.43). Donovan struck out a franchise record 10 in his last outing against London, lasting seven innings in a no-decision. The Boomers are 5-1 so far at home this season.
