Gateway at Boomers: June 6, 2012

Playing at Boomers Stadium has been a good thing for the Schaumburg Boomers. With last evening’s 5-4 win over the Gateway Grizzlies in the opener of a six-game homestand, the Boomers improved to 6-1 at home this season. The win halted a three-game losing skid, the second such streak of the summer.

The Boomers took advantage of an erratic Cale Johnson, who issued six walks in the game, by scoring three runs in the second inning and adding two more in the third for all of the offense in the game. Gateway plated two runs in the sixth and added a run in the ninth but could not battle back to tie the game. Alex Thieroff became the first Schaumburg pitcher to earn more than one save this season despite allowing his first run of the year.

Robby Donovan tossed six quality innings to claim the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. Frank Pfister posted two more hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games, the longest of the year by a Schaumburg player.

This evening is Plumbers Night at Boomers Stadium with an appearance from the Mario Brothers as the Boomers look to make it two in a row. LHP Cameron Roth (2-0, 1.77) takes the mound for Schaumburg against RHP Tim Brown (1-1, 2.11) for Gateway.
