Boomers Look for Fourth Straight

The Boomers hit a pair of homers last night to win on the road for the first time since May 20. The 5-3 win over the Joliet Slammers in the first ever meeting between the two teams halted a six-game road slide and moved the Boomers into a share of first place with River City in the West Division.

Nate Baumann knocked his third homer of the season over the wall in center on the first pitch leading off the second inning to hand Schaumburg the lead. Gerard Hall, activated from the 14-day injured reserve list before the game, connected on his first homer of the year in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0. Hall recorded two hits, scored two runs, stole a base, and drove home three in his first game since May 26.

Cameron Roth twirled his fifth quality start of the season to improve to 4-0 on the year. Roth pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just a single run in the sixth. The left-hander is tied with Gateway’s Alex Kaminsky for the league lead in victories and currently ranks third in the league in ERA with a paltry 1.54 mark for the season. Joliet took advantage of a pair of errors in the ninth, scoring twice with two outs, but Jason Braun was able to preserve the win by retiring pinch hitter Zach Mandelblatt with the tying runs on base. The save marked the second of the season for Braun.

Four times previously this season the Boomers have won three games in a row. Never before has the team won four straight. Schaumburg, who is tied for first after River City lost to Gateway last evening, sits a season high six games over .500 entering action tonight at Joliet. The Boomers have not been in first place since May 22, the fourth game of the year.

RHP Tyler Watkins (1-1, 2.39) takes the ball tonight at Silver Cross Field for the middle game of the brief three-game road sequence.
