Brief Roadswing Ends Tonight in Joliet

The Schaumburg Boomers were shutout for the first time in franchise history last night, falling 8-0 in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. Both teams had a combined two hits entering the sixth when Joliet recorded four straight as part of a two-run inning to chase starter Tyler Watkins from the game. Watkins failed to pitch six innings for the first time this season.

The Slammers added four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth against newly signed Kaleb Engelke to account for the final. The Boomers mustered just two hits in the loss, a season low, but left eight on base after drawing six walks in the contest. Schaumburg also committed a season high four errors in the defeat but only one of the runs was unearned.

The Boomers own a 2-0 record in rubber games this season and will attempt to take the series with Robbie Penny (1-2, 5.96) on the hill for tonight’s 7:05 p.m. game.
