Craft Beer Thursday Opens Homestand Tonight!

The Schaumburg Boomers broke out in a big way last night, scoring a season high and franchise record nine runs in a 9-1 rout of the Joliet Slammers to win the road series. The Boomers scored twice in the first inning before an out was recorded by Joliet starter Eric Binder, who was released today. Gerard Hall lined the first offering of the game into left and Nick Kuroczko walked before Frank Pfister doubled to open the scoring. Binder lasted just 1.1 innings in the defeat, allowing two more runs in the second.

The Boomers led 8-0 and posted four two-run innings before the defending Frontier League Champs finally broke through with a run in the sixth. The single tally was the lone run allowed by Robbie Penny, who matched a season high with seven innings to even his record at 2-2. Penny’s ERA for the season dropped by over a point in the win. Penny surrendered just six hits while walking two and striking out four. Jason Braun and Adam Tollefson finished out the victory with perfect innings out of the bullpen. Chad Mozingo led off the eighth with his third homer of the season to cap the scoring.

Everyone who played in the game, 11 total, reached base at least once with 10 players recording a hit. Pfister and Mozingo collected two apiece as the Boomers slugged 12 to win a series on the road for the first time since the opening series of 2012. Schaumburg tripled twice in the game, the first game in franchise history with multiple three-baggers. The Boomers also drew eight walks and were hit by a pitch once.

June has been a kind month to the Boomers travel wise. A stretch of 21 games in a row began on June 5, but the team will never have to spend a full day on the road with two Joliet trips sandwiched between a pair of homestands. Rockford visits Boomers Stadium tonight to open a six-game homestand on a Craft Beer Thursday. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.

Both teams have not announced starters for the contest. Schaumburg and Rockford split a pair of exhibition games with each team winning at home. The Boomers are 10-2 at home this season having gone 5-1 in both homestands.
