Five-Run Fifth Sparks Schaumburg Sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers erased a 4-1 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning as the first-place Boomers won their fourth straight and claimed a three-game sweep of the Rockford RiverHawks Saturday afternoon.

Schaumburg (18-9) have now won 10 of their last 12 games as the Boomers improved to 13-2 at home and completed their third series sweep at Boomers Stadium with an 8-6 victory over the RiverHawks (9-17). Eight Boomers contributed at least one hit in the contest as Frank Pfister belted his third homer in less than 24 hours and Nick Kuroczko reached base in all four plate appearances after going 2-2 with two singles and two walks.

Boomers RHP Jason Braun improved to 3-0 on the season in relief of Starter Cameron Roth, as Schaumburg improved to 6-0 in games when Roth starts. Closer Patrick Mincey continued his impressive run at the back end of the Boomers bullpen with another scoreless inning of work to earn his fourth save. In 12.1 innings in his first professional season, the Francis Marion University alum has yet to allow a run, surrendering just four hits while striking out an incredible 21 batters with just three walks.
