Hospitality Night Tonight

Chad Cregar did it to the Boomers again on Sunday, almost single handedly halting a Schaumburg franchise high four game winning streak. Cregar belted a three-run homer in the first inning off starter Tyler Watkins to hand Windy City the lead, his seventh homer of the year, four of which have come against the Boomers. Cregar went on to drive home five of the six runs in the game and owns 12 RBI against the Boomers this season. Cregar owns 10 hits against Schaumburg this season, all but two of which have gone for extra bases.

Trailing 6-0, the Boomers attempted to mount a comeback at home and keep the win streak alive. Windy City starter Stephen Sauer had retired 15 in a row entering the seventh before Gerard Hall worked the count to draw a walk. Frank Pfister singled and newcomer Steve McQuail walked to load the bases for Sean Mahley, who stroked a two-run opposite field single to chase Sauer from the game. Pinch hitter Chad Mozingo doubled leading off the eighth and came around to score while McQuail homered in the ninth to account for the final tally.

McQuail collected two hits and also stole a base in his debut, hitting in the cleanup slot. Pfister extended his hitting streak to a team high 10 games with his single. It is the first streak of 10 or more games for a Schaumburg player this season.

By virtue of River City’s loss to Evansville the Boomers still own a two-game advantage in the West Division but now over both Windy City and River City. The top five teams in the West are all at .500 or better and are separated by a combined total of just four games.

Schaumburg is 13-3 at home this season and has never dropped back-to-back games. The Boomers have yet to defeat Windy City in four meetings during 2012. Schaumburg opened each homestand with three game sweeps before dropping the opener to London and River City only to rebound with back-to-back victories to win the series.

RHP Robbie Penny (2-2, 4.85) starts for the Boomers today. Penny faced Windy City on May 22 and allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings of a no-decision in a 2-1 15-inning defeat. Windy City counters with RHP Dustin Williams (3-2, 5.29). Williams established a Frontier League single season record with 157 strikeouts last season. The Oklahoma native pitched against the Boomers on May 23, allowing three runs in six innings in another extra-inning victory for the ThunderBolts.
