Game Two at Joliet Tonight

The Boomers own 11 comeback win this year, adding another to the ledger last night by scoring four runs in the eighth inning, including three with two outs, to grab a 5-4 win over the Joliet Slammers, defending Frontier League Champions. Last night marked the 20th win of the season, meaning the Boomers have trailed at some point in over half of the team’s victories so far in 2012.

Jereme Milons, hitless in his previous 18 at bats, tied the score with a two-out single through the right side to plate Sean Mahley from second base. Nick Kuroczko followed with a two-run single to hand Schaumburg the lead. Robby Donovan worked through seven innings to earn the win, striking out seven. Donovan has won three consecutive decisions. Patrick Mincey stranded the tying run at second base in the bottom of the ninth to earn his sixth save in as many chances.

The 3-4-5 combination of Frank Pfister, Steve McQuail, and Mahley, combined for seven of the 11 hits in the game. The win handed Joliet its fourth consecutive defeat and fifth in a row at home. The Slammers are six games in back of the Boomers.

The Boomers, who have never been below the .500 mark this season, can reach .500 on the road for the first time since May 24 with a win tonight. Both teams will feature top hurlers with the Boomers placing LHP Cameron Roth (4-0, 2.21) on the mound and Joliet countering with RHP Steven Maxwell (3-2, 3.05).
