Boomers Score Ten Runs in First, Win 15-10

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The first-place Schaumburg Boomers sent 14 men to the plate in a 10-run first inning en route to a 15-10 victory over the Rockford RiverHawks at Boomers Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Boomers (22-13) scored the first 15 runs in the contest only to see the RiverHawks (12-22) chip away at the lead with ten unanswered runs to make it interesting late. However, despite the push, Schaumburg held off Rockford to improve to 16-4 at Boomers Stadium in 2012.

Four of the first five batters for the Boomers earned a free pass from Rockford starter Jordan Liette, who at one point three 13 consecutive balls to give the Boomers a 2-0 lead with just one tally in the hit column. A Rockford error allowed two more runs to score before Jereme Milons, the ninth batter of the inning, singled sharply up the middle to drive in Chad Mozingo and Nate Baumann, which made it a 6-0 Boomers lead.

After just 1/3 of an inning, Schaumburg chased Liette from the game and reliever Eric Rohe did not fare much better against the Boomers lineup. Karexon Sanchez and Sean Mahley greeted the Carthage College alum with back-to-back triples to give the Boomers a 9-0 advantage. Frank Pfister – who went 3-4 in the ballgame with two runs scored, a walk and an RBI – singled to drive in Mahley to cap off the offensive explosion in the first

Schaumburg added five runs in the third to put the game out of reach highlighted by a Baumann two-run blast over the Miller Lite Party Deck in leftfield and an RBI-single off the bat of Boomers backstop Mike Valadez. Sanchez reached base four times with two hits, two walks and three runs scored in the leadoff spot and Nick Kuroczko returned to the lineup after a day off yesterday adding two hits and two runs scored for Schaumburg.

RHP Shane Prance (1-0, 4.86) earned the victory for the Boomers after pitching six innings. The 6’3” right-hander picked up his first professional win after allowing five runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Michael Hur scored three times and drove in three on three hits including a solo homer for Rockford and catcher Michael Thomas drove in five runs to lead the charge for the RiverHawks who scored twice in the fourth, three times in the sixth, twice in the seventh and three more times in the ninth to provide the final margin of victory.

The Boomers go for the sweep Monday morning at an 11 a.m. scheduled first pitch. Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett has yet to announce Monday’s starter and RHP Cody Hallahan (1-3, 4.32) will take the mound for the RiverHawks.
