Big First Powers Boomers to Win

NORMAL, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers batted around in the first inning, scoring six times with two outs on the way to a 9-2 win over the Normal CornBelters in the warm middle game of a road series on Thursday night.

Normal starter Tyler Lavigne (3-2) recorded only two outs in the inning before the heat got the best of the starter. Karexon Sanchez walked to open the game and Sean Mahley followed with a single. Both runners were sacrificed up and with two outs Chad Mozingo lined a triple to left-center, handing Schaumburg the lead. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Mike Valadez who roped a single to center on the first offering from Normal (14-22) reliever Brendon Smith before Jereme Milons capped the scoring with a double off the wall in left.

Donovan won his fourth straight decision and allowed just a two-run second inning homer to Chico Gomez, his second in as many games. Mahley led off the second with a single, stole third and scored on an error to make the lead 7-0.
