Free Fireworks/Movie a Big Hit at Boomers Stadium

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Schaumburg Boomers opened the gates for a night of free fun, fireworks and more, packing Boomers Stadium with over 5,000 fans through the turnstiles as part of the Independence Day festivities.

The evening began with a couple former White Sox outfielders Carlos May and John Cangelosi with Sox and Chicago Cubs Pitcher Steve Trout at the autograph table for the early arrivers. Nine lucky participants took swings against Trout, the former Chicago major leaguer.

The Boomers invited fans onto the new playing surface, installed last fall by Roger Bossard, aka “the Sodfather” and Chicago White Sox groundskeeper, to watch an Independence Day Classic – the Sandlot! Following the movie, the fine folks at Melrose Pyrotechnics treated the crowd to an unforgetable fireworks display. Chicagoland's newest professional team capped off the night as they would at any other Boomers event, with the Tennis Ball Toss to win great prizes and a Boomers tradition, EVERYONE had a chance to run the bases!

The Schaumburg Boomers would like to thank each and every person who not only made this event possible but also the great people of Schaumburg and the surrounding suburbs of Chicago for helping to make this night such a fun event!
