Four Boomers Earn All-Star Recognition

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers will have at least four representatives in the upcoming 2012 Frontier League All-Star game as Frank Pfister, Cameron Roth and Patrick Mincey will join Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett, who earned the honor of managing the West Division on Wednesday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Normal, Ill.

Having guided his Boomers team to the best record in the West Division, Bennett has the opportunity to add the last three players to the team and could very well bring at least one, if not multiple members of his own Schaumburg squad. The Boomers, a team built from scratch by the first-year manager Bennett, currently sits in first place in the Frontier League’s West Division with a 27-16 record and an astounding 19-5 record at Boomers Stadium, the home of the Chicago’s newest professional franchise.

Prior to taking the helm with the Boomers, Bennett spent five seasons as the Pitching Coach for Boomers Owners Pat and Lindy Salvi’s other professional franchise, the Gary SouthShore RailCats, where he learned under two-time champion Greg Tagert. Before beginning his coaching career, Bennett played under Tagert to claim the Northern League Championship as a member of the RailCats in 2005 and in the Frontier League from 2002-04. Bennett spent two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization following an accomplished collegiate career at the University of Tennessee as a left-handed pitcher.

Pfister, 25, arrived in Schaumburg after advancing as high as Triple-A Louisville in the Cincinnati Reds organization. A consummate professional and leader in the clubhouse, the 6’1” infielder is tied for sixth in the league in batting average (.330) fourth in hits (60) and fifth in home runs (9) as the number three hitter in Bennett’s lineup. A former 17th round pick of the Reds, Pfister will be the West Division’s starting third basemen at the home of the Normal CornBelters on July 11.

Roth, 23, has been outstanding in a Boomers uniform during his first season in independent ball after two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system. Coming into this year, the southpaw held a 5-6 record with a 4.72 ERA in 137.1 innings but has been dominant for Schaumburg in 2012. In 61.1 innings pitched, Roth currently holds a 2.35 ERA, good for sixth in the league with eight of his nine games qualifying for quality starts. The Boomers are 7-2 in games when Roth pitches and the lefty has also amassed 34 strikeouts.

Mincey, 22, is a true rookie out of Francis Marion University who earned the Boomers closer job after a dominating stretch to open the season. Despite Opening Day being May 18, it was not until July 2against the East Division’s first-place team, the Traverse City Beach Bums, that Mincey allowed his first run of the season. For the season’s first two months, the 6’3” right-hander with a unique delivery surrendered just six hits and zero runs with an astonishing 31 strikeouts against just seven walks in 18 innings pitched.
