SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Karexon Sanchez trotted slowly to first base after being hit by the game-winning pitch with the bases loaded in the twelfth sending pinch-runner Jereme Milons across the plate for a 9-8 Schaumburg Boomers victory over the Washington Wild Things on Friday evening at Boomers Stadium. 

FIREWORKS SATURDAY: Due to the Village of Schaumburg’s 10:30 p.m. curfew on fireworks displays at Boomers Stadium, the Boomers were forced to postpone tonight’s scheduled Melrose Pyrotechnics performance. However, the fireworks have been rescheduled for after Saturday evening’s 6 p.m. first pitch against the Wild Things. All tickets (used or unused) from Friday’s 9-8 Schaumburg win will be honored for Saturday’s game so stop by the Box Office to exchange you ticket stub from Friday for an available seat for Saturday.

Frank Pfister’s tenth home run of the season capped the Boomers scoring early and gave the home team the 8-3 lead it would cling to until the eighth inning. Pfister finished 2-6 with two runs scored and three runs batted in for Schaumburg. Also leading the way for the Boomers offense were RF Nate Baumann, who pushed his season average to .273 with a three-hit performance, and Mike Valadez, who also collected a trio of hits and could have easily had four, but his sinking line drive with two outs and Baumann rounding third in the ninth was snared by Washington’s Johnathan Erb to send the game into extras.

Washington battled back to tie the game after scoring four runs in the eighth, highlighted by a Shain Stoner bases-loaded, bases-clearing double and a run in the ninth. Five days after allowing his first run of the season, Patrick Mincey blew his first save opportunity of his Boomers career after allowing one run in the ninth on just one hit.

RHP Matt Kuna was solid in his third start for Schaumburg after allowing three runs in six innings of work good for his third quality start in as many chances. The 6’3” right-hander earned a no-decision after fanning five, surrendering just six hits and walking none. Joe Parsons, the first reliever of the contest, threw a scoreless seventh to lower his team-leading ERA to 1.50. Shane Prance was excellent out of the Boomers bullpen with a pair of strikeouts in two hitless innings before giving way to Jason Braun who pitched a scoreless top of the twelfth to earn his fourth win of the season.

The same two teams meet Saturday evening with a scheduled 6 p.m. first pitch as LHP Cameron Roth (5-2, 2.35) takes the hill for Manager Jamie Bennett and the Boomers with RHP Chris Smith (3-3, 2.76) getting the call for the Wild Things.
