SCH: #28 Matt Kuna - RHP (1-0, 3.98 - sixth game; fourth start) vs. NOR: Tyler Stovall – LHP (1-5, 5.25)

Rookie right-hander Matt Kuna gets the nod for Manager Jamie Bennett as the Boomers and CornBelters square off at Boomers Stadium. The 6’3” Griffith, Ind. native has been solid since joining the Boomers staring rotation with Schaumburg claiming victories in all three games he has started.

With a .293 batting average against left-handers so far during their Inaugural Season, the Boomers appear to match up well against Tyler Stovall who comes into tonight’s game with 5.25 ERA.

LAST NIGHT: Robby Donovan twirled the second complete game of his career last night to shut down the Normal CornBelters in the first game of the second half. The win put a halt to a brief two-game slide for the Boomers. Donovan’s complete game was the first nine-inning complete game in franchise history. Cameron Roth pitched an eight-inning complete game in a 2-1 loss at Joliet on June 21.

Donovan allowed a first inning run on a double from Steven Felix and then promptly retired 11 in a row. Donovan sat down 20 of 22 following the first inning and allowed just six total baserunners. The right-hander did not walk a batter until issuing free passes to the first two batters of the ninth. Donovan punctuated the game with a strikeout of pinch hitter Sam Judah to end the night and register his sixth win of the season, tied with a host of hurlers for second in the league.

Schaumburg tied the game with a sacrifice fly from Jereme Milons in the second and scored twice in the seventh on sacrifice flies to overshadow the outing from Normal’s Jacob Liedka, who threw seven innings in the defeat. Both teams posted a combined total of nine hits. Milons lifted a pair of sacrifice flies to drive home two in the contest.
