TONIGHT SCH: RHP Cody Griebling (0-0, 0.00) vs. LE: RHP Pat Arnold (3-2, 5.12)

Prior to tonight's game the Boomers signed two new players in INF J.B. Brown and RHP Cody Griebling and both are in the lineup tonight for Manager Jamie Bennett.

J.B. Brown - Brown, 23, was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 14th round of the 2010 MLB June Draft. The 6’1” middle infielder had an outstanding first year of pro ball with the Brooklyn Cyclones. Brown batted .308 in 57 games with 12 doubles, four triples and three home runs for the Mets Low-A affiliate in the New York-Pennsylvania League.

After a tough 2011 season, Brown joined the Independent Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League at the beginning of the 2012 season. Brown also had a very successful stint with the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association as an injury replacement – Brown batted .421 (8-19) in six games – before joining the Boomers as a free agent in mid-July.

Before embarking on his professional career, Brown enjoyed an outstanding three-year career at the University of the Pacific. In 151 games as a member of the Tigers, Brown holds a .344 career batting average with 34 doubles and 14 home runs. The 84 hits by Brown in 2009 is tied for second in school history and despite just three years of college ball, Brown ranks eighth in Pacific baseball history with 197 career hits.

Cody Griebling - Griebling, 23, comes to Schaumburg after a stellar two-year career at Division II Missouri Southern State University.  A second-team All-Region honoree as a senior in 2012, Griebling earned a 9-4 record to go along with a 3.19 ERA with 74 strikeouts and a .246 opponents batting average. As a junior, Griebling finished the season with a 7-5 record and a 4.46 ERA to earn honorable mention All-MIAA status. Griebling struck out 54 batters in just over 70 innings, while striking out more than six on four different occasions.

Prior to attending Missouri Southern, Griebling was a two-time All-Conference Selections at Madison Tech where he went 4-1 with a 2.69 ERA in 12 appearances, striking out 33, while walking just 16 and holding batters to a .288 batting average in his sophomore season. As a freshman, Griebling was 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA in 12 appearances with three starts, two complete games (both shutouts), while holding batters to a .215 average and striking out 19 in 29.1 innings pitched.

LAST NIGHT: The Boomers (33-19) scored twice in the second and five times in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead in front of the home faithful Monday night. Jereme Milons doubled in his first two at bats against his former team and in four games against Lake Erie this season, is batting a sweltering 8-17(.470) against the Crushers (27-25). In the third, Frank Pfister and Steve McQuail belted back-to-back home runs, the third time the Boomers have combined for such a feat this season.

Righty Alex Rivers was excellent through 5.2 innings for the Boomers, allowing just one hit before the Lake Erie broke through for five runs, capped off by a Daniel Bowman two-RBI single, to cut the lead to two. Adam Tollefson entered with two on in the seventh and coerced a pair of groundouts, including a double play, to end the threat. On the night, the veteran southpaw did not allow a hit in his two innings of work and struck out two before giving way to the Boomers closer. Mincey struck out the side in the ninth to earn his ninth save as Schaumburg improved to a season-high 14 games over the .500 mark.

Eight of the nine Boomers starters reached base as Schaumburg improved to 24-7 at home. Of the 24 wins at Boomers stadium, 20 have come in games decided by three runs or less – in other words, odds are you will see a competitive game!
