SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Steve McQuail blasted two solo home runs, but the Lake Erie Crushers offense was too much for the Schaumburg Boomers as they fell 10-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Boomers Stadium in front of a raucous day-camp day crowd of 4,765, the second largest crowd of the season.

Chad Mozingo’s two-run double down the left field line in the first inning scored Karexon Sanchez and Frank Pfister to put the Boomers on top early by a score of 2-1. The double gave Mozingo his 16th and 17th two-out RBI on the season, extending his team lead in that department. The Boomers could not hold on to the early advantage as Schaumburg surrendered seven unanswered runs before scoring again on solo homers from Sean Mahley and McQuail in the sixth.

Lake Erie roughed up Shane Prance (1-1, 6.23) with the long ball early, as the Crushers scored in each of the first four innings.  Designated hitter Jason Taylor and right fielder Daniel Bowman each homered in the third inning, with Taylor adding another in the fourth, giving the Crushers an early 7-2 lead behind winning pitcher Trevor Longfellow (6-2, 4.04). Prance lasted only four innings while surrendering seven runs and striking out three Crushers on the afternoon.

Newly signed right-hander Tyler Ware relieved Prance in the fifth and pitched three innings of one-run ball in his Boomer debut.  McQuail belted another bomb to left-center in the eight inning, marking the second multi-home run game in franchise history, with the other belonging to Pfister who attained the feat on June 15 against Rockford. Mahley recorded his third three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 on the day with three RBI as the team’s designated hitter while raising his average to .275.

The Boomers made it interesting in the ninth, scoring twice on a Mahley double, but Pfister could not push across any more runs as he snapped his franchise-record 15 game hitting streak with a fly out to centerfield to end the game. The loss drops the Boomers to 8-2 when the team has recorded multiple home runs in a single game and to 33-21 overall.

Schaumburg heads to Sauget, Ill. to face the Gateway Grizzlies for the first of six consecutive road games before returning home on July 25. Matt Kuna (2-0, 3.08), victorious in his last outing, faces off against Paul Tremlin (4-0, 3.16) for the Grizzlies.
