Schaumburg Shut Out Again by Joliet

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Unable to dig themselves out of an early hole, the Schaumburg Boomers fell to the Joliet Slammers by a final score of 5-0 Saturday evening at Boomers Stadium.

It was another tough day at the office for the Boomers (41-30) as the visiting Slammers (29-42) shut out the hosts for the second straight game. Cameron Roth takes the loss for the Boomers despite allowing just one earned run over his seven innings Saturday. Roth fell to 8-5 as the Schaumburg southpaw struck out seven and allowed just five hits with four walks. The former Baltimore Orioles farmhand has allowed just one earned run in his last 24.1 innings.

Frank Pfister collected two of the six Boomers hits in the game with his 18th and 19th doubles of the season. The Boomers did manage to draw five free passes in the contest with Karexon Sanchez reaching twice in the game on a single and a walk, however the Joliet pitching staff managed to keep Schaumburg off the scoreboard. Jacob Sanchez improved to 4-1 for the Slammers after scattering five hits over his six innings of work and lowered his ERA to 1.91 in the process.

A two-run homer off the bat of Kyle Maunus in the eighth inning spoiled the return of Jose Rodriguez to the Boomers bullpen after stint on the injured reserve list with a nasty ankle injury and Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless ninth in his Boomers debut.

Schaumburg hopes to salvage the final game of this three-game set as Alex Rivers (2-2, 5.14) takes the mound for Manager Jamie Bennett and Joliet counters with RHP Tommy Mendoza (3-5, 4.58) for the scheduled 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday afternoon.
