Boomers Open Trip with Shutout

O’FALLON, Mo. — The Schaumburg Boomers put the brakes on a four-game losing streak, gaining ground in the playoff race with a 4-0 win over the River City Rascals in the opener of a roadtrip, riding the arm of Cody Griebling.

Griebling worked seven shutout innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. The rookie allowed seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts, outdueling Tony Marsala, who suffered the loss after allowing just one earned run in six innings for River City. The Boomers opened a 1-0 lead with a single tally in the fourth and added another in the fifth on a Nate Baumann sacrifice fly. Steve McQuail hit his 14th homer of the season in the eighth and Frank Pfister contributed his 50th RBI with a single in the ninth. Sam Robinson left the bases loaded in the ninth to record the shutout.

The Boomers (42-31) registered 10 hits in the contest, three of which came from Pfister and two from McQuail. RHP Robby Donovan (7-4, 3.55) will start in game two of the series on Wednesday opposite RHP Justin Sarratt (0-1, 5.68) for River City in another 7:05 p.m. affair.
