Boomers Match Chicago Cubs Win Total

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Despite starting the season five weeks later, the Schaumburg Boomers matched the win total of the 2012 Chicago Cubs reaching the 43-win mark in 35 fewer games during the Inaugural Season of Boomers Baseball in Schaumburg.

The Boomers improved to 43-31 with an 11-0 victory Wednesday over the River City Rascals and the Cubs fell to 43-66 following a 2-0 loss at the hands of the San Diego Padres. Schaumburg claimed win number 43 in game 74, while the North Siders, in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, have 43 wins in 109 chances.

Jamie Bennett has done an amazing job in building a team from the ground up and putting up a ‘W’ so often this summer,” said Boomers President and General Manager Andy Viano. “It’s going to be a thrilling pennant race over the next few weeks at Boomers Stadium and we’re looking forward to delivering winning baseball to Chicago all the way into the fall.”

The win total is not the only connection between the two professional baseball franchises as the Boomers play in a ballpark with the same dimensions as Wrigley Field. Boomers Stadium is home to a 51-home game schedule in 2012, with the Boomers currently tied for a Wild Card spot in the Frontier League and just a half game out of first place in the West Division standings, thanks in large part to a 27-12 home record.

With free parking at every game, affordable tickets starting at just $7 and an easy-to-get-to location, there simply isn’t a better value than Boomers Baseball for baseball fans in the greater Chicagoland area during the final month of the Boomers Inaugural Season. The Schaumburg Boomers return to action at beautiful Boomers Stadium on Tuesday, August 14 for the first of nine home games in 10 days complete with Fireworks after the game on Friday, August 17.
