Beach Bums Homer Past Boomers

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The East Division leading Traverse City Beach Bums matched a season high with four homeruns, including a pair from Jeff Flagg, to power past the Schaumburg Boomers 12-2 on Saturday night.

Schaumburg opened the scoring in the first inning when the game’s first batter, Karexon Sanchez, homered over the wall in right. Flagg’s first homer in the second handed the hosts the lead. Flagg hit another two-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 5-1. Ryan Still’s three-run shot and a solo homer off the bat of Jose Vargas, his league high 26th, stretched the edge to 9-1. Drew Heithoff singled home Mike Valadez in the sixth to account for the only other Schaumburg run. Alex Rivers pitched five innings and suffered the loss despite recording six strikeouts.
