Five Run Ninth Leads to Victory over Beach Bums

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The Schaumburg Boomers struck for five two-out runs in the top of the ninth inning on five straight hits against Traverse City’s closer to swipe a 10-7 win on the road Sunday night and salvage a game in the series.

The two-out rally began with back-to-back sharp singles from pinch-hitter K.C. Judge and Karexon Sanchez as the Boomers trailed 6-5. Nate Baumann tied the game with a single over the third baseman. Frank Pfister handed Schaumburg its first lead since the second with an infield hit and Chad Mozingo punctuated the comeback with his second homer of the game to make a winner of the Boomers. Traverse City scored a run in the bottom of the inning but could not bring the tying run to the plate against Patrick Mincey.

Cody Griebling gutted through seven innings on the hill but took his first no decision of the season, striking out four. Steve McQuail hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Mozingo connected on his first of the game in the sixth, a two-run shot to bring the Boomers within a run. Mozingo drove home five runs and had a pair of multi-homer games on the trip becoming the first player to have more than one multi-homer game this year.

The leaders of the West, Windy City, visit Boomers Stadium following an off day on Monday. RHP Matt Kuna (2-4, 3.83) will face RHP Stephen Sauer (6-6, 3.63).
