LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers placed the tying run at third in the top of the ninth but could not complete a third comeback attempt, falling to the Rockford RiverHawks 5-4 on Monday in a makeup game.

Rockford led from wire-to-wire, scoring a run in the first. Nate Baumann’s sacrifice fly evened the contest in the third before Matt Greener roped a double in the bottom of the inning to again hand Rockford the lead. Karexon Sanchez drilled a two-run homer on a 3-0 pitch in the fifth to again tie the game but once more the RiverHawks answered. Rockford chased starter Cameron Roth (8-9) from the game in the inning, scoring twice.

Roth allowed five runs on eight hits. Chase Fontaine hit his second homer in as many games in the sixth but Rockford was able to work around a leadoff double from Fontaine in the ninth to collect the one-run victory when a double play ended the contest with Fontaine at third.
