Boomers Shutout in Series Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Schaumburg Boomers were shutout 11-0 by the Washington Wild Things in the opener of the final series of the regular season Friday evening.

Washington loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning but came up empty as Matt Kuna battled through. The inning though was a sign of things to come. Washington scored in the third on a sacrifice fly from Gus Benusa and tacked on five in the fifth to chase Kuna and take control. Schaumburg had the potential tying run thrown out at the plate in the fourth inning prior to the five-run outburst. Washington added a run in the sixth and back-to-back homers in the seventh ignited another four-run frame to cap the scoring.

The Boomers (53-41) mustered only three hits in the defeat, two of which came from Brandon Gregorich as Casey Barnes twirled eight shutout innings to record the seventh shutout against the Boomers this year.

The final series of the season continues Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. Central with LHP Cameron Roth (8-9, 3.63) taking on RHP Justin Hall (5-7, 4.47).
