SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers agreed to terms with the club’s first catcher in Curry College’s Brad Hawn, Manager Jamie Bennett announced today.

Hawn, 22, was a starter in all four seasons at Division III Curry, which is located in Milton, Mass. just seven miles from downtown Boston. In 157 games for the Colonels, Hawn batted .350 with 30 doubles and an impressive 77 walks against just 52 strikeouts during a career that included three-consecutive First Team All-Star honors in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Hawn’s most productive offensive season came as a junior in 2010, when he hit .423 (66 for 156) with 40 runs batted in and 45 runs scored in 42 games, and was named as ECAC Division III New England Championship Game Most Outstanding Player. As a senior, Hawn started all 41 games for Curry, batting .341 with a pair of homers, 18 RBI and 32 runs scored.

After completing his baseball career at Curry in the spring of 2011, Hawn earned some professional experience after appearing in eight games for the Las Cruces Vaqueros, one of six teams in the newly formed, independent Pecos League based in Colorado and Texas.

The Placentia, Calif. native transferred to Curry from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. after graduating from Mater Dei High School, where he was a team captain as a junior and senior, earned Offensive Player of the Year in 2005 and followed with Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2006.

Hawn becomes the eleventh player to agree to terms for the Inaugural Season of Boomers Baseball joining pitchers Matt Collins & Vinny Lally; infielders Tyler Boling, Andrew Cohn, Brandon Hairston, Drew Heithoff & Ellis Lowe; and outfielders Nate Baumann, Raphael Turner & John Wagle. All 11 will join up 23 other players (34 total) vying for a spot on the Boomers 24-man Opening Day roster.

The Schaumburg Boomers first-ever home game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25 against the Florence Freedom.
