Boomers Pres/GM Viano Added to SBA Board

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Schaumburg Boomers President and General Manager Andy Viano was added to the Schaumburg Business Association Board of Directors at the monthly SBA meeting Thursday morning.

“We’re thrilled the Boomers are bringing baseball back to Schaumburg and are honored to welcome Andy Viano to the Board of Directors of the Schaumburg Business Association,” said Interim President of the Schaumburg Business Association Deborah Nelson. “The season hasn’t even opened yet and already we’ve scored. Andy met with us last year to sign on the Boomers to SBA membership and get connected with other SBA members to do business. It’s a great partnership with many win-wins.”

Viano was named President/General Manager of the Schaumburg Boomers in September 2011 after spending the 2010 season in the same capacity with the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Heading into his eighth season in professional baseball, Viano is excited to be leading the Boomers in their inaugural campaign, and looks forward to all the newness—new name, new logo, new playing surface and new fan experience at every Boomers game!

“We could not be happier that the Boomers have decided to make Schaumburg their home and we are excited to have Andy Viano joining our board,” added Rich Augustine, Chairperson of the SBA Board of Directors. “If just a little of Andy’s excitement about the Boomers trickles down to our board this will be an exciting and interesting year.”

“It’s an honor to be a part of the Board of Directors and work alongside Deborah, Rich and the rest of the outstanding business professionals and local leaders that make Schaumburg such a terrific place to operate,” Viano said. “We are committed to making Boomers games an ideal setting for the entire Chicagoland business community to network together and I look forward to helping the SBA grow along with the Boomers in 2012 and beyond.”

Prior to being named the President/General Manager of the RailCats, Viano served in a variety of roles with the club including as play-by-play broadcaster and Director of Media Relations from 2008-2010. After graduating from Valparaiso University in 2005, he worked in the athletic department at Valpo and later served as the Director of Media Relations at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York for two years.

The Schaumburg Boomers first-ever home game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25 against the Florence Freedom. Tickets including discount pricing for groups of 20 or more are available now by calling the Boomers at 847.461.3695.
