Boomers, RailCats Hold Joint Tryout at Cumberland

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers will join the Gary SouthShore RailCats at the home of two-time NAIA National Champions, Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. for an early spring tryout camp on Saturday, March 17 as both teams will be on the lookout for committed, talented baseball players.

**PLEASE NOTE: An Open Tryout will also be held at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg, Ill. in April**

Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett will join his former boss in RailCats Manager Greg Tagert in the return to Cumberland. Tagert and the RailCats hosted a similar event at Cumberland for the first time in 2011, but the 'Cats manager has signed a number of players from the Tennessee area during his tenure as RailCats manager, which began in 2005 and has included two league championships and a run of five consecutive championship series appearances. Bennett served as Tagert's pitching coach during the majority of that stretch before joining the Boomers as the club's inaugural manager in Fall 2011.

This will be an open tryout for any player age 18 and older who is not under contract or currently playing collegiately. Players should wear proper baseball attire and will need to provide their own equipment, including wood bats and catchers gear.

Position players will report at 10 a.m. and pitchers will report at 11:30 a.m.

Players are strongly encouraged to pre-register and should contact either Greg Tagert at [email protected] or Jamie Bennett at [email protected] for details. The cost of the tryout is $50. The alternate date in case of rain is Sunday, March 18.

The Boomers, named after a nickname for the male prairie chicken, open their Inaugural Season on Friday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. against the Florence Freedom. Season tickets, Boomer Bundles and group outings are available now by calling the Boomers at 847.461.3695. Be sure to check out www.boomersbaseball.com for more information.
