Boomers Add Pitching Coach & Athletic Trainer

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers announced the addition of two members to their coaching staff today with Pitching Coach Paul Kubon and Athletic Trainer Scott Waehler from ATI Physical Therapy.

Kubon spent the 2011 season as the Pitching Coach for the Wabash College Little Giants, winners of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Under his direction, the Little Giants’ pitching staff lowered their collective ERA, while increasing their win total. The Little Giants won the NCAC conference tournament for the first time ever, as well as made the first regional appearance in the 145-year history of Wabash College.

Kubon brings professional baseball experience to his role with the Boomers. Kubon worked as an Associate Scout for the Philadelphia Phillies for five years, and currently fills that same role for the Orioles.

Prior to his role with Wabash, Kubon served as the Lead Pitching Instructor at both the Indy Sportzone and the Indiana Baseball Academy. Kubon also served as the Pitching Coach and Assistant Head Coach of the Delphi Community High School Varsity Baseball Team for a number of years. In his seasons with the Oracles, Kubon turned his pitching staff into a championship caliber group, including the first conference, regional, and semi-state championships in school history, as well as State Champion Runner-Up in 2010.

ATI Physical Therapy provided the services of Waehler for the Boomers first season in 2012. Waehler has worked as the Athletic Trainer of the Illinois State University Baseball Team since 2010, and will receive his Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Recreation with an emphasis in Athletic Training from ISU in May 2012. Waehler received his Bachelor of Science from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

During his time with the ISU Baseball Team, Waehler performed year-round care on the athletes, including manual therapy, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and injury assessment. Waehler also served as an Approved Clinical Instructor to a group of undergraduate athletic training students.

Prior to his work with the Illinois State University Redbirds, Waehler served as a Student Athletic Trainer for the Indianapolis Colts and the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods Collegiate Baseball League.

The Schaumburg Boomers open the 2012 season on the road on May 18 but return to Schaumburg for the Inaugural Home Opener on Friday, May 25. Tickets are on sale now by calling 847.461.3695 or by visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
