Boomers Aiming for Sweep

The franchise firsts continued on Saturday night as the Schaumburg Boomers made it two in a row to start the season by recording a 6-2 win over the Lake Erie Crushers. The victory handed the Boomers their first ever series victory.

Lefty Cam Roth put together the second consecutive strong showing on the mound by a starter, throwing six shutout innings. Roth struck out three in the contest.

Schaumburg led 6-0 before Lake Erie rallied, bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Patrick Mincey posted consecutive strikeouts to end the threat and record the victory. Lake Erie did not score a run until there were two outs in the eighth, a string of 16.2 innings dating to the opener on Friday.

Frank Pfister hit the first homer in franchise history in the top of the second inning to put Schaumburg ahead. Mike Valadez added an eighth inning blast. Nick Kuroczko posted the first triple in history in the second inning as well.

Tonight, the Boomers aim for a sweep with a 4:05 p.m. CDT start in the series finale in Ohio. RHP Tyler Watkins will make his pro debut on the mound in the series finale.
