SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — At the Sports Business Conference held in Dallas, Texas last week, the Schaumburg Boomers were awarded this year’s Best Sponsorship Activation Award for its nightly promotion with Kia Motors and mascot Coop the Boomer.

The Boomers were chosen from affiliated minor league teams, independent minor league teams and collegiate wood bat teams from across the country. The Sports Business Conference is a three-day event to provide teams with creative ideas, knowledge and direction for the upcoming season and speakers included Boomers owner Pat Salvi and minor league executive Mike Veeck.

At every home game in 2012, Boomers fans were invited to cheer as loud as they could to get Coop’s attention as the Boomers mascot rode around the warning track in a sharp new Kia vehicle while tossing Kia branded softee balls to the loudest fans in the park. The promotion captivated fans throughout the park and drew thousands of eyes to Kia’s award-winning vehicles.

The Boomers recently completed their Inaugural Season as members of the 14-team Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league with teams throughout the Midwest. Schaumburg finished fourth in overall attendance in their first season of operation and on the field fell just a game short of the fourth and final playoff spot after spending 50 days atop the standings.
