Frontier League rules require teams to designate with whom they wish to retain contractual rights for the upcoming season by January 1 and today’s announcement does not mean these 23 players are under contract for 2013.

The Boomers also declined the contract options on pitchers Alex Rivers and Tyler Watkins, infielders Drew Heithoff and John Wagle, and outfielder Jereme Milons. Those players are now free agents able to negotiate with any team including the Boomers. Infielder Chase Fontaine, having exceeded the league’s age maximum, is also a free agent.

The Schaumburg Boomers open the 2013 season on Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. against the Windy City ThunderBolts at Boomers Stadium, the first of a 96-game schedule in the 14-team Frontier League.
