Help Support Local Crusader Erin Merryn on 5/31

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers are proud to welcome Schaumburg native and 2012 GLAMOUR Magazine Woman of the Year Erin Merryn to Boomers Stadium on May 31 to raise awareness for her fight against the sexual abuse of children through Erin’s Law. A victim of sexual abuse as a child, Merryn is committed to using her experiences to save others from the same fate. Erin’s Law, which has been passed in six states to date, will provide mandatory age appropriate curriculum for kids on sexual abuse, educating them on safe and unsafe interactions and secrets with adults in their lives. Merryn travels state to state testifying and lobbying for the passage of Erin’s Law, which has currently passed in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, and Arkansas, with 10 more states set to introduce it in 2013-2014. And Erin vows not to stop until Erin’s Law has passed in all 50 states.

“My mission is to take the stigma and shame off of sexual abuse survivors and give them a reason to speak” says Merryn. “To educate the public that children are being abused right now in your own communities and our own backyards. I am at war against this silent evil that is lurking in the shadows.”

On Friday, May 31, the Schaumburg native is teaming up with the Boomers to raise awareness and funds for her crusade. Merryn will be in attendance for the 6:30 p.m. tilt against the Evansville Otters, and will speak briefly before the game about her experiences and her determination to fight back. To ensure that a portion of your Boomers ticket sale goes to benefit Erin, please log on to www.boomersbaseball.com/erinslaw to purchase tickets for the May 31 game.
