Boomers Stadium Offered to Local

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — With tempers heating up and back-room political wrangling playing out in the public eye, the Schaumburg Boomers today offered an olive branch to the Chicago Cubs, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts and Cubs fans throughout the region by offering beautiful Boomers Stadium up as the home of the Chicago Cubs, with a few caveats.

Designed to the exact dimensions of Wrigley Field, Boomers Stadium was built in 1999 by the Village of Schaumburg and Schaumburg Park District and features modern amenities like a 450-square-foot HD video screen, open-air stadium concourse, oversized luxury suites, a batting cage, and dozens of fully-functional individual toilets and urinals.

“Look, we may not be in a night-life hot spot like Wrigleyville or have centuries of tradition,” Boomers President/General Manager Andy Viano said, “but we do have free parking every day for every fan, there’s easy access in and out from the Elgin O’Hare Expressway and the Schaumburg Metra Train Station in our parking lot, you can buy a 20 oz. beer and a hot dog for $7 combined, and as far as we know Ronnie Woo Woo’s never been within 20 miles of our front gates.”

UPDATE as of 4:50 pm CST: Thanks to JL Caldwell for bringing this to our attention on Facebook, but now we can confirm that Ronnie Woo Woo has in fact been seen in Schaumburg for at least one night in August back in 1999.

There is one condition to the Boomers offer, however.

“We’ll propose a fair and honest rent, no question about that, but we have one tenant that’s committed to winning a championship in 2013 so the Boomers would get first priority on dates,” Viano said.  “However, I think a Friday afternoon Cubs matinee would make for the perfect opening act before a Boomers game under the lights with a spectacular, free post-game fireworks show!”

Founded in 2011 by Chicagoans Patrick & Lindy Salvi, the Boomers open their second season of Frontier League baseball on May 16, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.  The Boomers finished their inaugural season with a 54-42 record, winning only seven fewer games than the Cubs (despite playing 66 less games).
