Attendance Surges, Team Off to Undefeated Start

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers second season is off to a roaring start after four straight home wins and large, raucous crowds helped propel Chicagoland’s premier minor league sports franchise to near the top of the Frontier League standings in both win-loss record and attendance.

One year after launching as an expansion club in the 14-team Frontier League, the Boomers opened 2013 with a weekend full of games starting Thursday, May 16. Over four straight dates, the Boomers surpassed their 2012 average attendance at all four games – totaling more than 11,000 through the turnstiles – and knocked off the Windy City Thunderbolts on Opening Night before sweeping three games from the Washington (Pa.) Wild Things.

In 2012, the Boomers averaged 2,515 fans per game while experiencing consistent month-by-month attendance growth.  So far in 2013, the Boomers have not only seen crowds grow for Opening Weekend but have also already surpassed their 2012 pre-sale ticket totals (group tickets, season tickets and ticket packages), meaning the team is poised for an even greater explosion at the gates in the weeks and months to come.

“It’s at the same time humbling and energizing to see the greater Schaumburg community respond to our team the way they have in the time leading up to this season and during Opening Weekend,” Boomers President/GM Andy Viano said. “We’re fortunate enough to have some of the most dedicated fans in baseball, and to be able to exceed attendance expectations and over-deliver for our corporate partners with the kinds of crowds coming through our gates is an awesome feeling. Better yet, it’s terrific news for those companies in the area that have been behind the Boomers from day one.”

The Boomers starting lineup took the field in a limousine, provided by Elegant Limo, on Opening Night before a crowd of 2,818 who all walked away with Boomers rally towels, courtesy of the team’s founding partners – Kia Motors, Wintrust Financial Corporation, ATI Physical Therapy and Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, P.C. One day later, 3,373 braved a cold and rainy night to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show, presented by US 99.5 FM, and a crowd of 2,632 filed in on Saturday to see a dramatic comeback win. Sunday afternoon, the Boomers saw a league-leading 2,518 fans surge into the park to wrap up an undefeated homestand, with a post-game autograph session with the entire team made possible by Wintrust.

“The businesses we work with like our founding partners Kia Motors, Wintrust Financial Corporation, ATI Physical Therapy and the law offices of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard are the reason we’re able to keep our ticket and food prices low, keep our parking free, and keep delivering on our promise to make Boomers Baseball the Northwest Suburbs’ ultimate summer destination for families of all ages,” Viano added. “Those companies and the dozens of others we are partnered with are truly committed to this community, and they are ones who are now happily reaping the rewards of our success at the turnstiles. I encourage any other company looking to make its mark in Schaumburg or the surrounding communities to get on board with the Boomers now as we’re poised for even greater growth in the coming weeks, months and years!”

The 4-0 Boomers are the only remaining undefeated team in the Frontier League, lead the league with a total attendance of 11,341 fans and are averaging 2,835 fans through their opening homestand, more than 300 more per game than in 2012. Tickets are going fast for the Boomers premier dates, including the Wednesday, June 19 game, which is sold out in the main seating bowl with only luxury suites and lawn tickets still available.
