Following an Opening Night victory over the Windy City Thunderbolts on Thursday, Schaumburg took the next three from the visiting Washington Wild Things. Saturday’s contest featured late-inning drama with the Boomers trailing 4-2 headed to the bottom of the eighth inning. A Brian McConkey three-RBI triple gave Schaumburg the lead for good in a 6-5 victory. The Boomers polished off the three-game set against Washington with a 2-1 win on Sunday to complete the Opening Weekend sweep.

A six-game road trips begins Wednesday with a doubleheader against the Florence Freedom (1-2) at University of Cincinnati Medical Center Stadium. Mike Giovenco (Chicago, Ill.) takes the ball for the second time this season after the right-hander tossed five innings and allowed just two runs with six strikeouts in a no decision against Windy City on Opening Night. Giovenco will square off against RHP Dan Jenson, making his debut for the Freedom. RHP Chris Phelen toes the slab in game two for the Boomers as Florence sends RHP Jason Wilson to the mound.
