Fireworks Light Up Disney Night Despite 9-3 Defeat

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Friday was a magical evening in #Boomerica, as Schaumburg Boomers fans celebrated Disney Night. Despite a 9-3 loss to the Evansville Otters, the magic lasted until the end of the evening capped off by a fantastic fireworks show.

The Boomers found themselves tangled up in an early hole and never escaped en route to just the second home loss of the season. The Otters took advantage of six walks in the first four innings. Evansville took a 4-0 lead, even scoring a run in the fourth on a hit batter with the bases fully loaded

Schaumburg found its groove one inning later, denting the scoreboard twice in the fifth. Steve McQuail belted a bolt to the wall in left field to plate Frank Pfister. Two batters later, Bobby Martin smashed a sky-high sac fly to deep center, sending McQuail homeward bound. Otters starting pitcher Matt Zielinski kept the Boomers offense in check, going seven innings while scattering eight hits and giving up just two runs.

Pfister was the brave leader of the offense for the Boomers, with two of his four hits coming as doubles along with two runs to lead the charge. Craig Hertler added three hits to maintain his Frontier League-leading on base percentage. McQuail tallied two doubles, a run, and his sixth RBI of the season, while Chad Mozingo notched his ninth run batted in. Mike Giovenco took the loss from the hill, going five innings and giving up four runs.

The Boomers follow up this freaky Friday with a Saturday showdown between LHP Danny Jimenez (0-1, 5.63) and Ryan Zamorsky (1-0, 0.00), complete with the world's largest marshmallow fight after the game! Come to the ballpark and enjoy live music after the game.
