Big Innings Lead River City to Win

O’FALLON, Mo. — Two big innings helped lead the River City Rascals to an 18-7 win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Wednesday night.

Schaumburg jumped on the board early, striking for three quick first inning runs. Frank Pfister posted an RBI double in the frame and Chad Mozingo added his first homer of the season, a two-run blast. River City came back with two in the bottom of the inning and took the lead with a six-run second. Phil Wunderlich hit a grand slam in the frame. Starter Joe Parsons failed to make it out of the fourth inning, allowing nine runs in 3.2 innings to suffer the loss. River City put the game out of reach in the sixth with nine runs on only three hits.

The Schaumburg pitching staff issued 11 walks in the game, most in franchise history. The Boomers did slug 12 hits in the contest and belted two homers. Steve McQuail homered for the second consecutive game in the seventh. Craig Hertler drew three walks for the Boomers. The game was delayed by rain for an hour in the bottom of the fourth.

The rubber match of the series is on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mike Giovenco (0-2, 4.05) starts for the Boomers against RHP Craig Goodman (0-0, 3.00).
