Franchise-Best Win Streak Ends in 5-3 Defeat

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - On Ladies Diamond Dig Night at the ballpark, courtesy of Timothy Grant Jewelry, the Schaumburg Boomers couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole, and had their club record six-game winning streak snapped by a score of 5-3.

The Frontier Greys took a 1-0 lead on a solo homer in the first inning off the bat of JJ Muse, but Boomers starting pitcher Matt Kuna held the Greys to just four hits and off the scoreboard over the next four innings.

The Boomers bats came alive in the fourth inning when Sean Mahley got on base with a single, extending his hitting streak to five games. Mahley would score the tying run on a Brian McConkey hit after stealing his sixth base of the season.

The Greys added three runs in the sixth inning before Schaumburg scored again in the bottom of the frame when Frank Pfister singled to start things off and Mahley followed with a walk. Pfister scored and Mahley ended up at third on a double steal when Greys catcher Justin McDavid's throw to an uncovered second base sailed into center field. A Steve McQuail fielder's choice scored Mahley and narrowed the gap to 4-3.

That’s as close as the Boomers would get as another solo shot in the seventh by the Greys Balbino Fuenmayer closed out the offensive production on the night, setting the final score at 5-3.

McConkey led the way for Schuamburg swinging the bat, notching two hits and an RBI, as well as the team's Frontier League-best 72nd double of the young season. Mahley scored twice, while McQuail chipped in an RBI of his own.

Kuna went five strong innings and gave up just one run on four hits before giving way to Dan Lazzaroni, who took the loss after surrendering three runs on three hits.
